We are a friendly and welcoming bowls club based in the heart of Cambridge, playing on the beautiful and historic green at Christ’s Pieces.
Our outdoor season runs from late April through to mid-September. We compete in both the Cambridge & District League and the Meldreth & District League.
New bowlers are always welcome. Whether you are completely new to the sport or an experienced player, we offer a supportive environment with a strong social spirit.
City Bowls is more than just a sports club — it is a community. Alongside competitive bowling, we enjoy a lively social calendar and a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere.

Bowls is a welcoming, low-impact sport that brings people together while supporting physical, mental, and social wellbeing. It gently improves balance, coordination, flexibility, and mobility, making it enjoyable and accessible for players of all ages and abilities.
The smooth, relaxed movement involved is kind to the joints while still encouraging regular activity and overall fitness. Playing bowls promotes cardiovascular health through easy walking and movement, while the controlled delivery of the bowl helps strengthen muscles and supports good posture.
Just as importantly, bowls keeps the mind active and engaged. The game offers a perfect balance of focus, strategy, and decision-making, and many players find it both mentally stimulating and wonderfully relaxing. Bowls truly shines as a social sport. It encourages conversation, teamwork, laughter, and connection, helping to build lasting friendships and a strong sense of community. Whether you’re new to the game or a long-time player, bowls offers enjoyment, wellbeing, and a place where everyone belongs.
